Moved by mountains
Through the Spruce, originally uploaded by treknpaddle.
This is truly an alien landscape to me. Here I stand on a deer run above the road, looking through the spruce boughs at a mountain on the horizon. In this landscape, the horizon i never far away. I suspect that at the top, the horizon could stretch on for hundreds of miles, just like in my beloved White Mountains. Or perhaps getting to the top of these nearby peaks would only lead me to realize just how much higher the peaks around them are. I like this vertical landscape, but I feel reassured to know now that this is not where my home will be. The mountains call to me, and I want to explore them, but my heart is still in the rounded hills and heavy forests of Appalachia. Maine. I love Maine and I miss her.
I wonder how much of my next two months will be spent sleeping in strange rooms and I am reassured to know that I will once again be home for Thanksgiving. It is a wonderful feeling to know that I have one day in which I know where I’ll be. One day you can count on. I like to think you can often count on me to show up- more so when you least expect it- but my work often sends me on the road. This is probably for the best, otherwise I might not be able to quench my thirst for adventure.
Tomorrow, the mountains will again move me, and I will again take photos. Hopefully one will truly capture the majesty of the place I am visiting.
