Suing for sunshine, or, tree-hugging gets expensive
The Seattle Times reports today that a California resident who has a roof-top solar panel system sued his neighbor who has redwood trees because the trees shade his solar panels. The $1,000-a-day fine that can be imposed on offending tree owners seems to put the wrong-doers in a league with Enron executives. Tree hugging is not for wimps anymore, and if your trees tend to grow, you could be in big trouble.
This particular brouhaha has been going on for six years, and only the lawyers were enjoying the experience. At last, the tree owners are required to cut down two of their eight trees to let the sunshine flow.
How do the carbon credits work out on this one?
